Designing Unique Merchandise For The Tank Museum
The Gift Scholars are proud to partner with The Tank Museum, a renowned institution dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of tanks. Our collaboration began at The Family Attractions Show, where an unexpected conversation about tank-themed slippers sparked a creative and productive relationship.
The Challenge
The Tank Museum was looking to refresh and expand its retail offerings, aiming to provide unique, high-quality merchandise that resonated with visitors and reflected the museum's focus on historical accuracy.
The Solution
1. Tank Slippers Redesign
The journey began with a redesign of their existing tank slippers. Using our advanced digital printing technology, we developed slippers modelled after four distinct tank designs. Our attention to detail ensured that each slipper accurately represented the features of its real-world counterpart—a vital requirement for the museum's knowledgeable audience.
2. Vintage-Style Tank Top
Building on the success of the slippers, we collaborated on a vintage-style “tank top” (appropriately named, of course!). Its popularity exceeded expectations, leading to a second production run. The museum’s creative product photography on their web shop (https://tankmuseumshop.org) undoubtedly played a role in driving sales!
3. Expanding the Product Range
After visiting our Warwickshire showroom to explore our wider capabilities, The Tank Museum entrusted us with creating a full complement of bespoke merchandise.
This included:
Luggage
Fleece blankets and robes
Pyjamas and knitwear
Bedding and curtains
Matching bean bag skins
4. Mini Plush Tanks and Custom Display
Most recently, we introduced mini plush tanks—a charming takeaway product perfect for children visiting the museum. These are displayed in a custom-designed plush cube (our first cuboid!), featuring intricate routed details that add to the display's appeal.
The Results
Our partnership with The Tank Museum has been a resounding success. Together, we’ve developed a range of merchandise that is both functional and fun, appealing to visitors of all ages while staying true to the museum's brand. The unique and thoughtful designs have strengthened the museum’s retail offerings, and the products’ popularity speaks volumes about the collaboration's success.
Conclusion
Working with The Tank Museum has been an exciting opportunity to push creative boundaries and design products that stand out. This partnership exemplifies how innovative design, attention to detail, and a shared vision can create exceptional results. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and exploring new ways to delight their visitors.
